Telling Time Without Pulling Your Hair Out!
Telling time and teaching students to measure to the nearest quarter inch are the same on my “Things I Hate To Teach” list. I think they hold the second and third slot- right under Human Growth and Development.
Thankful, Hooty over at Hooty’s Homeroom has made it MUCH easier. She has created a sweet little game that packs a LOT of punch!
My kids ALWAYS need more practice telling time to five minutes! This telling time game is super cute and simple. The game includes 45 different game cards.
The cards include word form, digital time, and an analog clock. The clocks are very user friendly and have a red hand of the hour and black hand for the minutes.
The game can be played several different ways. It can be played as a concentration game.
To differentiate difficulty, students can play concentration and match only two of the cards (remember to take out all of the cards NOT being used first). For a more difficult game students can play concentration and match all three cards.
Another game option would be Go Fish!
Students draw five cards and try to find matches. Students take turns asking each other for a specific time. If the partner has it then he or she must give the card over. If not, then the playing asking must “Go Fish” and draw a card!
The best part is that this game is part of a SERIES of games. Hooty has made three other games!
Her other time games are to the hour and half hour
, quarter hour
, and minute
! Each game is a steal at only $2 each and you can buy in either color (like me- I like pretty colors!) or in black in white to save ink! Happy shopping!
